This gap analysis is from 2005.

I want to start biking from Redwood City to San Francisco. I'd rather not bike near cars, which is what googlemaps suggests. and I'd love to bike along the shore.

    There are several web sites (e.g. Strava, RideWithGPS, Garmin Connect, MapMyRide) which allow people to publish routes that they have planned/ridden. It is probably worth looking at these sites to see if there is anything "off the shelf" that you can use.
