Are Triace bikes any good? They are huge in China where I live but apart from Walmart ads I can't find anything useful in English.

I want to buy a hardtail MTB and the readily available brands are Giant, Merida, and Triace. The former two I know well...

Never heard of them, but a good rule of thumb is that if Walmart sells them, they aren't very good. – Kibbee Aug 13 '12 at 1:42
That may be true for some models. Walmart also sells "name brand" GT,Diamondback etc. However if you check the websites of those brands they don't list the Walmart models. They get the name recognition at a lower price point. I would look for component quality. – mikes Aug 13 '12 at 1:52

Just because Walmart sells some lowend bikes under the GT brand doesn't mean all GT's are lowend. – mikes Aug 13 '12 at 1:59

@mikes It might help them sell a few (or a lot) more bikes, but in my mind, selling Walmart quality bikes says a lot about the morals of a company. Bike companies like Trek, Specialized, Cervelo, and others don't sell bikes at Walmart, because they don't want people to have a bad experience with their bikes. When bike isn't assembled right (because it's assembled by some kid at Walmart), it won't perform well, and people will be left with a bad impression of the quality of bikes made by that company. If a company stands behind good quality, there is no way for them to sell a bike at Walmart. – Kibbee Aug 13 '12 at 13:24

I don't have anything about Walmart per se. It's fine for buying things like dish soap, toilet paper, and laundry detergent. But things like bikes, tools, furniture, and just about anything mechanical don't seem to fit well with the Walmart method of business. – Kibbee Aug 13 '12 at 13:27
