Bicycles Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who build and repair bicycles, people who train cycling, or commute on bicycles. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My dad found a bike and I want to know what kind and make it is.

I know the different parts it has, because I put it together from scratch. I want to know the frame though.

It does not have the original color but it has the serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket housing. Can anyone help me?

Here is a picture:

I don't know if the serial numbers of bicycles are unique also among different manufacturers and if yes, if there is a database that relates the number to a certain manufacturer. Anyway to have a chance to help you we would need as much information as possible. Do you have at least a photo of the bike? –  Benedikt Bauer Sep 2 '13 at 19:28

I've never seen any table or such to relate serial to manufacturer. But I did just this AM run across VeloBase, which seems to have a lot of old bike info. You might check there. –  Daniel R Hicks Sep 2 '13 at 20:37

Our local police have a list of serial numbers - not one you want to find your bike on...... –  mattnz Sep 3 '13 at 2:22

Probably a good idea to upload a picture with some actual identifiable details, in good light. If there are any identifying details, include those. If not, at least include pictures of the head tube, and the rear hangers, and anything else that looks unusual. –  naught101 Sep 3 '13 at 6:54
