Bicycles Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who build and repair bicycles, people who train cycling, or commute on bicycles. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've seen it advertised but never used it, what's it for? Is it effective ?

Perhaps a good question for the Terminology Index: bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/244/terminology-index –  Dustin Sep 2 '10 at 14:30

@Dustin - Good idea, I've added an entry for chamois that also includes this. –  Neil Fein Jul 31 '11 at 16:09

Chamois cream is useful if one is getting chafing from rubbing inside a pair of shorts. I've found it useful in high humidity.

Does Vaseline or anything common household items work to substitute? –  uosɐſ Jul 31 '11 at 2:25
