Bicycles Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who build and repair bicycles, people who train cycling, or commute on bicycles. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I know that opinions vary on using flat-fixing stuff like Slime. But I'd like to hear from people who are actually using it.

The only downsides I'm aware of are: * might dry up and gunk up your valve (their website says it's water soluble and that you can just remove the valve core and let it sit in hot water to disolve it). * Adds a little weight to the tire.

Please vote for either "yes, it's helped" or "no, I've had a problem with it." That way we can just get a quick idea of how effective Slime is.

I've used it in the past and had no problems. I'm planning to put it in my wife and kids' bikes and in my commuter bike. All bikes where speed isn't important and dependability is.

Clay, thanks for the question but questions should be potentially answerable by a single answer. Stack Exchange is not a forum. The way this is structured, every answer is valid. Have a look at our FAQ and please consider rewriting this as a more specific, answerable question. – Neil Fein Aug 30 '11 at 20:48

Perhaps, rather than a poll, you could ask under what situations slime is useful, or where use should be avoided - and why. – Neil Fein Aug 30 '11 at 20:50
I have had no luck with Slime in bicycle tubes so far. – Moab Aug 30 '11 at 21:35
@Clay - I thought of this question when I saw this thread on BF: Tire liners and slime tubes...do alot of tourers use them? – Neil Fein Sep 5 '11 at 18:52

Yes, I've used it and had it either fix a flat or had noticeably fewer flats and not had any problems with it (like it gunking up the valve.)
