I'm a bit pusher who occasionally turns a wrench on bikes. I enjoy building and maintaining wheels. My main ride is currently a 2011 Argon-18 Krypton with SRAM Force, Hawk Racing BB, and Hawk Racing Wheels.

What tools on a multi-tool do I actually need? Also worth looking at is what type of bike/riding you are doing. For instance, I'm much more likely to need a chain tool on a MTB ride than on a road ride. |

Evaluate hill gradient The only way I could get this (relatively pricey) thing to work was to stop my bike. I'd recommend a GPS gizmo instead. |

Squeaky rear wheel when rotating That sounds like plastic or rubber rubbing on the tire. Is anything dangling from the rack/fender? |

Disabling back-pedal brake I'd read through this and then carefully disassemble the brake. I suspect you will be able to determine how to disable. sheldonbrown.com/coaster-brakes.html |

Is this an abnormal rate of spoke breakage? "one of the connectors the spokes are linking to the rim" are you referring to the spoke nipples? |

Is this an abnormal rate of spoke breakage? My guess is your wheel is not tensioned correctly. This can be just low overall tension on the spoke or a warped rim that is being pulled into shape with resulting VERY uneven tension. Of course check that nothing is rubbing against (rear derailleur going to far, etc) spokes. |

Metallic vibration sound while cornering - hybrid/CX tires You might find some slicks and replace your tires to see if it's the knobs that are making the noise. I rode my CX bike around a bit yesterday and there is a "buzz-ripple" when I corner on asphalt. Could probably tell with just replacing your front, so if you have a road wheel around you could do a quick check (make sure brake pads line up). |

What is the braking (stopping) distance for bicycles? I also factor in my "outs"; on the bike I often have the shoulder and if I really need it, the ditch next to the shoulder. Commuting often means riding a bit closer in with the traffic than you might like...if you do leave a bigger gap, it becomes even more dangerous as the car behind you swerves around to take the space you've left. |

Is it possible to date Shimano components? I wasn't being sarcastic...as the technology moves it way down, the weight of the component changes. I think that might be one of the only ways to accomplish the task. |

Is it possible to date Shimano components? I would think you could get fairly accurate based on weight for most components. |

Why are single-speed bikes with disc brakes hard to find? This might be worth looking at if you are looking to do a conversion of your current single speed. cxmagazine.com/… |

What can I do to help me sustain frequent long-ish rides? It will take your body more than the two weeks to start adjusting (this is a GOOD thing, you're getting in better shape). There are folks that will swear by various nutrition guidelines to assist, but IMO, just eat healthy and keep at it. Your body will get used to the abuse in a couple more weeks. If you feel especially sore/fatigued, take a rest day mid week. Soon you won't need one. Happy Riding. |
