I'm a bit pusher who occasionally turns a wrench on bikes. I enjoy building and maintaining wheels. My main ride is currently a 2011 Argon-18 Krypton with SRAM Force, Hawk Racing BB, and Hawk Racing Wheels.

Is it possible to estimate road grade while riding? I use the Edge 800 and 500...both do a decent job of giving you the grade. It's not perfect and it's not instant, but it's good enough for use while riding. Both give better (and close match to maps) with the data once loaded into the computer. |

Is it possible to estimate road grade while riding? I've found this to be about useless for me...any amount of forward motion and the bubble moves too much to be of any use. YMMV. |

Clip-on to temporarily convert Look pedal to stand-on style? Alternative: get some tri-shoes...With a bit of practice you can get in and out of these without unclipping (the shoe stays clipped into pedal)...leave these on the bike when you get to your destination. Get a decent set of flip-flops that you can velcro to your flat kit. |

Are eliptical chainrings effective? I did some "web-research" on this a couple years ago. After quite a bit of reading, it really boiled down (for me at least) to: "opinions differ". Studies that seemed to be driven by the companies offering the rings claim huge success. Not a lot of independent studies. |

Determining which derailleur hanger is compatible with a frame Would love to know if there is a free resource. Large high volume bike shops have access to a pretty complete reference site (I've got a link at home, I'll try to remember to paste it in later)...but it's too pricey for individuals ($50/month if memory serves). Best bet is to call your manufacturer and see what the "official" hanger to use is. |

What is the trick to riding on sand? I'll leave this to the more experienced sand riders, but my limited experience shows that the inverse of my instinct works...when you hit the sand, go faster. |

Should I listen to music when I bike? I should have mentioned that very few of the folks on the internet like the "decide for yourself". They want to enforce what they think is right for your safety. |

Chain fell out of rear derailleur when wheel off. Can you add a picture? As noted, this shouldn't be possible. |

Onguard U-lock jammed I like teflon for once parts are moving, but to get into the rusted up crevices, creep is the stuff. trizolube.com/TRIZOL_WEBSITE/CREEP.html or amazon.com/Blaster-16-PB-Penetrating-Catalyst-oz/dp/B000I2079E/… both will do a lot to get things unstuck. |

Front wheel getting misaligned while climbing hills From the narrative, it's a loose stem. Loose headset would not cause misalignment (other bad things, yes). |
