comment What purpose do the rubber 'hairs' have on new tyres?
@heltonbiker: That's a good point. The reason I ask is because I tend to pull them out when I'm bored without realising what I'm doing.

I think the BBC article does a good job of explaining how you cycle to the South Pole.

#3: Seems like a good idea for expensive bikes. I like the idea of having a unique key.

comment How can I stop my mudguards from rattling?
+1, Check for loose bolts. If you still can't find the source of noise turn your bike upside down, turn the wheels and check to make sure nothing is scratching the surface of the mudguards.

comment Where can I find replacement pads for a bicycle helmet?
I'm against the idea. Whilst the pads inside the helmet provide little protection against collisions, they're primarily their for comfort and fit. A loose helmet is dangerous and so it's generaly an unwise idea to make DIY alterations to your helmet as highlighted in this question.

comment How should I alight from the pavement?
I should mention when I get of the road onto the pavement I stop riding and push the bike. It's illegal to ride on the pavement (sidewalk). This is also a question quite specific to the UK

comment What should I use to lubricate my kickstand?
This is what I used and it worked. I had to grease around the kickstand and the spring.
