I ride for fitness, enjoyment and an easier, less stressful commute.

On weekends I ride a custom (by Kennedy's Cycle Fit) road bike with Campag gear.

To commute I ride an SE Lager fixed (love the fixie!)

With the family I ride a Shogun hybrid.

I love to tinker with my bikes and won't go to a mechanic unless it's for something advanced or unfamiliar.

comment My back brakes don't lock the wheel (skid): feature or a bug?
Are you using the front brakes at the same time? If you're applying both brakes then the back probably wouldn't lock up. If it still doesn't lock up the wheel with just the back brake then you've probably got a problem.

@David I'd trust the shop on that advice. I've had friends who haven't taken this advice and then ended up spending $500+ on cassette and chainrings.

I don't agree with your last statement. It would be easy to wear your chain sufficiently to destroy the cassette and chainrings in much less than 2-3 years.

@Batman I would have done this but I was changing the cassette to a different size, so the chain length would need to be different as well.

comment My left STI shifter has 5 positions for a double crankset?
@Blam trim position is a smaller adjustment while still remaining on the same chainring to allow for cross chaining.

comment Why is my fixie so very hard to pedal?
What's with the fixie hate? Just because you don't enjoy it doesn't mean nobody else does or that you have to be rude and dismissive.

Excellent answer for removing cranks, although you didn't mention removing the crank bolt with a hex wrench. He specified in a comment that he only wants to remove the chain rings.

I'm certainly not criticizing it's just interesting that there clearly isn't a lot of information about cleat placement so the same 2 or 3 articles keep cropping up.
