I ride for fitness, enjoyment and an easier, less stressful commute.
On weekends I ride a custom (by Kennedy's Cycle Fit) road bike with Campag gear.
To commute I ride an SE Lager fixed (love the fixie!)
With the family I ride a Shogun hybrid.
I love to tinker with my bikes and won't go to a mechanic unless it's for something advanced or unfamiliar.

What is the impact of changing to a smaller chainring? A new crankset would be $170 (evanscycles.com/products/campagnolo/…) instead of $70 for just a chainring. But then I'd get the two new chainrings and a new crank. |

What is the impact of changing to a smaller chainring? That's an interesting idea. According to my interpretation of the campag page, my existing derailleur should work on both normal and compact cranks campagnolo.com/jsp/en/groupsetdetail/item_derVE_catid_1.jsp. |

Best value for money on aero wheels Aren't wheels a consumable item? Or can braking surfaces be replaced? |

Why are there no team breakaways in road racing? It seems that breakaways are allowed (or even encouraged) by the peleton. If the breakaway was full of powerful or strategic riders it would be reined in very quickly. But for some reason they also seem to like having a breakaway out there and will let it survive until 20-30km left. I have no idea why this happens. |

Is there a device for protecting your carbon-soled road shoes from the cleats? @zenbike I haven't seen those before.. you learn something new every day! Are they good? I dislike my standard Shimano SL pedals because it's hard to get my shoes aligned and clipped in. |

What are early signs of failure in forks/stem/handlebars? Awarded the answer for the comment "But IME the frame and fork are usually better built than the components on a bottom-of-the-range bike. There's no real corners to cut on a frame and fork, where they can shave component quality endlessly. " |

What makes a bike stay upright when moving? @Kibbee I think the main difference is how quickly the corrections you make take effect. At speed, a small change in the angle of the front wheel results in the bike changing angle in a very small amount of time. However when travelling slowly, it takes a longer time to change the angle of the bike, and that is time that the bike has to exaggerate it's current lean angle |

Can I use an inner tube that's too narrow for the tyre? @zenbike sounds like you've got another question (and the answer) wrapped up in here. It might be worth posting it independently. You make some good points and it's worth putting out there. |

Using the outer lane of an inner-city one way system - where do I ride? +1 Riding can be relaxing and enjoyable and it's worth making efforts like that described to make it more so. |

What's causing soreness in front upper thigh? There are a lot of options preceding giving up completely! Go to a doctor or physiotherapist and get some treatment. +1 for increasing cadence. I got a lot of hip pain until I made a conscious effort to spin faster and haven't had any trouble since. |
