I ride for fitness, enjoyment and an easier, less stressful commute.

On weekends I ride a custom (by Kennedy's Cycle Fit) road bike with Campag gear.

To commute I ride an SE Lager fixed (love the fixie!)

With the family I ride a Shogun hybrid.

I love to tinker with my bikes and won't go to a mechanic unless it's for something advanced or unfamiliar.

comment Is there any advantage to removing rust?
@CareyGregory surely getting rid of rust and then sealing properly will then prevent future rust?

comment What are the pros and cons of internal gears?
+1 for heavy. I notice a big difference between my fixie and my single speed with a 3-speed hub even though the rest of the bikes are very similar

comment What tool is needed to adjust this headset on a children's bike?
@amcnabb good question. I have only ever used one that came in a cheapie toolkit. I suspect any tools would work for the low torque required for a headset, but I'm not 100% sure.

@amcnabb I've updated with some more detail about the hook wrench. The pin spanner is slightly different from what you need.

comment Safety of fixies
@KenHiatt I disagree that he should start off without pedal straps. Having your feet anchored to the pedals makes riding fixed a lot easier. sheldonbrown.com/fixed.html#pedals

comment Can a chain-lock be better against cutting than a U-lock?
Two cuts of 10mm diameter would be much easier than a single cut of 18mm diameter due to the reduced volume of material needing to be cut.
