Why ride a fixed-gear bike? #2 could be achieved by never changing gears. It does not solve the problem. It's like saying you will never write because you don't like when pencil points breaks. |

Home-made sealed freewheel? @zenbike sorry missed your comment on this one. care to explain the "use the correct grease" statement? also, what is the "SS version"? If I can buy a product or if it at least provide me with inspiration for my DIY project, it will be good news! |

Home-made sealed freewheel? they do not have much pits. diameter of the ones i bothered to test was perfectly constant (only have precision caliper, no bearing template to test them all at once), but again, even if I buy a NEW freewheel, even if it's a premium new freewheel for $100, it will still need oil at least every 6months. there ought be a way to seal them... or so i hope :) |

Home-made sealed freewheel? about the 3-4h. i had no idea what i was doing and had to open/clean each bearing twice :) knowing what i'm doing, it's faster then assembling ikea furniture. |

Why don't bikes by auto manufacturers make it into bike shops or onto the streets? I would buy that yellow renault. Also, two years ago BMW showed a hybrid bike that folded into the space for the spare tire. but i can't find it now. |

Home-made sealed freewheel? @ʍǝɥʇɐɯ those are good point but getting an ebay one would still require me to open up and lube it. even buying a new one, manufacturer says "re-lube twice a year". so there's no gain in getting a new one. Mine is a 5 speed hyperglade 14-30. it's difficult to get a new one like that. even something that costs 3x more than shimano, harriscyclery.net/product/…, requires oil twice a year. I'm trying to solve the oil leaking out problem EVEN if I get a new one. |

Home-made sealed freewheel? @zenbike i put more info there. It's a BMX 5speed freewheel shimano MF-Z012. Btw, i'm still waiting for the slick honey oil you suggest on another question when i was still trying to remove said freewheel :) |

Home-made sealed freewheel? @ʍǝɥʇɐɯ there's only one model shimano makes for my system. and it's awful. the high end models ($50 are no better). and redoing my freewheel twice (used grease the 1st time) took me around 3-4hours. but the question is about home-made oil seal. |

Why don't brakes come with 'Safety Levers' any more? So just because there are two levers instead of one it's bound to not work? does not make much sense. |
