7-speed MTB cassette on 8/9-speed wheel hub, where does spacer go? I'll get some better, less greasy pics :-) I honestly didn't even think to replace just the rim. |

Is it harmful to shift RD while climbing standing? No broken spokes, but the rim cracked (the bright line in the 2nd pic) and bulged out. I only noticed because it started rubbing on the brake pad. Actually I knew it was a little warped for a while, but only in the last month have I been standing from stops and on hills. So could easily be cause and effect. |

Advantages of higher quality cranksets Maybe just my confusion. I wasn't sure you really meant better cranks would shift better; I guess that's where I started thinking gears. |

Advantages of higher quality cranksets The question asks about crankset, which I take it is combination of crank arms and chain rings. Your answer is (I think) aimed at chain rings only; what are the benefits of upgrading the crank arms in addition? |

Patch or replace tube? +1 for replacing with spare tube on the ride then patching it later. And once patched, put that tube back in the seat bag as another spare. |

Should inner tube have excess length? Yes, and I already +1'd you for it :-) I would have just added my comment to your answer if I could at the time. |
