What does a cyclocomputer actually measure for calculating the speed of the bike? +1 for citing a Usenet post that's old enough to vote. |

How do Traffic Lights Notice Bicyclists? @user652 The coming thing is actually the cameras. Motion-detection-camera-based signal control is all the rage right now, the prices (at least in the USA) having been pushed way down by technology changes in the camera market (so-called "IP cameras"). They are, in fact, usually infra-red, and often have "illuminators" (IR sources) attached to to make them more responsive. |

Learning to bunny hop on a MTB That video would have been a whole lot more useful if the cameraman could have kept the rider's lower half and the bike in frame during the "try it yourself" section :-) |

What is the best method to teach a young child to ride? Yup, it was very effective. Both of them came to love cycling, and one became a tri-athlete. I believe it worked because they were fully supported by someone they trusted at all times when they needed it, and that support was gradually replaced with their own ability, whether they initially realized it or not. As a parenting strategy in general, it's not bad. |

Does bicycle helmet use lead to lives saved? +1 because this question doesn't bury the lead the way bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/1678/… does, even though there's a great answer there to this one: bicycles.stackexchange.com/a/1734/1679 |

What is the practical advantage of disk brakes over rim brakes? "The rotor is also less likely to hit obstacles as it's further from the ground." - Perhaps in Australia, where they ride upside down. Every rim brake I've ever see up here in the Northern Hemisphere is mounted well above the center of the wheel. :-) |

How should I deal with bike messengers + others (salmon) riding the wrong way in a bike lane? It's your problem when you're contending with them for the lane. |
