Downvote? Just curious. I've never understood how this site is managed. For me it's been by far the hardest of the SE sites to get any useful information out of.

It depends. See for example "Teen cyclist fined for riding 37mph in Richmond Park".

@JamesBradbury: Simply cutting and pasting text proved to be by far the simplest approach. With a little detail (e.g, about locating 'trkpt' elements and pasting them into tracks) that would be an answer.

GPSBabel is a bit of overkill for simple merges. In fact, it has large but odd collection of capabilities. So far, it looks like simple text editing does the trick. GPX files are (it turns out; I didn't realize when I started) pretty simple XML files. Combining them is straightforward with a text editor.

@Angelo: What I have is a list of several times at various (approximate) milages, where I rode over a pad. That, and a GPX of the route (without any timings). I'd be happy if I could take that and create a "route" that had matching times for passing the locations of the pads, and simply averaged the "ride" segments in between over the course of the route.

@Angelo: Is there a way to make the process of creating a route for tie missing data less painful. What I have for that is (1) times at a few milestones and (2) the route. But it's not clear how to use that to create a "ride" without a lot of calculation and tedious work. There must be some way to take that information (even just a start, and end and a route) and create an "averaged" ride, but I can't find it.

@JamesBradbury: That's a good idea. Simple cut and paste in a text editor might do the trick. As Angelo says though, I'm finding the hard part (despite suggestions here) to be creating the missing route.

You mention combining tracks. How does one do that if one is not using a Garmin device?
