  • By day a Microsoft Platform Web Developer.
  • By night 1/2 the year, a H.S Basketball Coach.

I am a mixed mode commuter - sometimes I ride, sometimes I drive, and sometimes there is a bus or train ride mixed in there.

My rides:

  • 2008 Specialized Roubaix Comp (pretty much stock)
  • 2004 Novara Randonee - racks, fenders, lights and an upgrade to 105 on the rear after a crash.
  • 1993 MtnTek Vertical - rack, fenders, slick - was my primary commuter for years.

Most citibike programs I have encountered have stands located not many blocks apart, so you could actually swap one out pretty quick normally.

comment What tools are required to replace a spoke?
Just to be clear - I'm not saying all 5 are broken at the same time... I'm a big guy and I mostly ride with a bike loaded with panniers and probably break spokes more frequently than some others. I usually figure that if I've broken the first I need to start budgeting for the rebuild over the next couple of months.

Clearly you aren't going to lube a bikeshare bike, or replace tires, but if you are in the habit of doing an ABC Quick Check on your own bikes, you do this in about 30-45 seconds. Eg. you pinch test and spin the tires while looking at the wheel for true, tires for bulges and then checking the brakes when you squeeze to stop the wheel.
