I didn't get my first computer until I was 12 (1997), but within a year I was messing around in Pascal in a free version Borland Delphi I got off a PC Pro promotional disc.

But very soon after Half-Life was released and then all I wanted was to be a level designer, so I spent the next 8 years learning various 3D and graphics applications. Once I hit about 20 years old I realised I could make better tools, so I downloaded Eclipse and started to learn Python, and then C++. It wasn't long before I forgot all about making content, and focussed all my efforts on programming. Never looked back.

I trained and worked in the VFX industry, but now work in pro-audio.

comment Is there such a thing as frame failure?
A mate of mine snapped my first Alu DH frame whilst having a 'quick go', it snapped through the downtube and top tube behind the headtube gussetting after landing a jump. No cracks or anything, unlike CrMo Al has a low tolerance to metal fatigue, every time you land it hard it flexes very slightly - and it only does it so many times...

comment Should I ring my bell before going around corners?
+1 Agreed. I live in semi-rural England, but the little town gets very busy with tourists, and the roads were designed for horse and cart. Bells and horns won't achieve anything, so keep alert - and learn to bunny hop...

comment Wheel rigidity, is it noticeable and should I care about it?
@DHR +1 Although, the difference between the two types narrows in MTB wheels due to the significantly wider gap between the hub flanges.

comment How do you wrap a bicycle frame with used inner tubes?
I'm surprised people are asking what's the point of this. Even the manufacturers themselves put frame protectors over chainstays for chainslap, but the thin tape is rarely sufficient. When navigating through tight rock sections, it's easy to smash your BB/down tube. I've even seen people wrap their entire frame/forks in helicopter tape.

comment Rolling dismount: leg crosses over in front of you or behind?
Get rid of it then. If it causes the basic act of getting off your bike to be difficult, then it's a poor bike accessory.
