comment geared to fixied options
Pretty dead set on fixed. I've seen some drop out conversion kits but I'm a little dubious of them. Then again they may be my only option if I do not want a slack chain

comment what to look for when buying bicycle pants
@DanielRHicks Yeah I know, but many ppl have the mini kryptos attached to their jeans and no doubt a few $60 locks have been lost due to Jean rippage. Perhaps a viable alternative, can't say till I try them. However my krypto is huge so it stays in the backpack. On the topic of wearing locks However I the levi's do have a few features I like, water resistance and reflective tape. Thou I do believe this is levi's cashing in on the rise of cycling. Blame hipsters!

150 quid for trousers! They look the part but my problem is how they will hold up to the weather and general dirt from the bike

@Unsliced "lose their trueness relatively quickly and the hubs and bearings will need TLC quite soon too" What maintenance is associated with such a bike? I'd rather make my mistakes on this bike as opposed to my next bike.

I'm talking the classic kind of road bike that you would pick to take you from A to B. Could be fixed or geared

I will need a lock ring tool and chain whip :) however I've noticed some lockrings have the notches within the ring rather than the outside...

comment How to avoid knee pain when cycling
@VincentAgnello I'm kinda concerned about spinning wildly on that gearing, I've a mellow enough hill to go down on the maybe a 40o-ish incline. I'm not sure of that rpm I'd need to keep for that. I gravitating towards a 19t gear, how much spinning will there be on 22t ring? dotjoe if this is the case what is the best method of shifting this over two weeks later and still off the bike the pain continues. and I have book an appointment with the physio
