comment Upgrading cassette - what do I need to be aware of?
Adding to @Kibbee thoughts I would stay away from the very low end no name chains you see on the internet that sell for $6-$7. Just get a decent brand name chain in a price range that suits you.

comment Upgrading mechanical disk brakes
Some fork manufactures list limits on the the size of the rotor due to the increased load. Check to see if you will exceed the limit with the larger rotor.

Have you checked the crank arm mounting bolts or the crank cotters (if it is old enough to have them).

comment Did SRAM change/update their 10 speed PowerLink?
I modified an old pair of reversible snap ring pliers (not the type with changeable tips). With a small notches ground in the tip to catch the barrel, it installs and removes.

comment What are the Pros/Cons of a 2.1 vs 2.3 wide Mountain Bike Tire
One thing too consider is that sizes of the inflated tire can vary between brands. A 2.5 from Brand A may fit between the chain stays, but a 2.4 from Brand B may be too wide.
