comment Diamondback Sorrento for first starter bike?
While at your local shop ask about used bikes. Tell them what you"ve told us and they will point you in the right direction. If they keep pushing you to spend more than you are comfortable with try another shop. They should let you take it for a real test ride.

comment Is it possible to glue or patch tire sidewalls?
The same glue /cement that comes with a regular bike patch kit. Not being able to see the actual flaw in the tire, I would say you should replace it as soon as possible or ask your local shop to evaluate it for you.

comment Where is the Tricross Sora front derailleur barrel adjuster
Have you looked for an inline adjuster? It looks like a bump somewhere in the cable housing. Usually between the bars and the frame

comment What are good ways to dry shoes?
If you can afford the extra cost, buy an extra pair of shoes. When using the boot dryers you can use the lowest heat setting. This decreases that stiff cardboard shoe feel when they are first worn.

Are you buying a bike with these components, upgrading a new bike or building a bike with the intention of using these components?

Is the chain still on the front gears and the rear cassette? Post pictures of these areas along with the rear axle.

If all else fails put a large screw driver in one of the notches in the lockring and tap it with a hammer.
