comment I have a foreign bike, and don't know what pressure to pump it to
Never thought about the lower inflation test first. Really good idea, as finding a split or unseated bead at 50psi is less damaging than it occurring at 90psi.

comment Messenger bag or handlebar basket?
As others have stated this is subjective but I prefer to carry Items on the bike. My reasoning is that in the event of an accident it is less likely to cause me injury if it isn't strapped to my body

comment How can I remove the bottom bracket from this old road bike?
Spray it with some penetrating oil Liquid wrench, PB Blaster etc. Place a wooden block on the crank and hit it with a heavier hammer.

If you are looking at mechanical (cable operated) discs you may need new levers also.

If you bring the number on the seal (6003 RSR?) to a bearing supplier like Bearing Specialty, Eastern Bearing etc they can easily cross reference it and they sell retail.

comment Difference between brake pads on road and MTBs
For what it's worth I mounted linear pull MTB style pads on an older road bike with 27 inch wheels and have noticed no ill effects.

comment Mountain bike crankset chainring compatibility
If you don't use the big ring much you may consider a bash ring. It installs in place of the big ring but with no teeth and is strong enough to bounce off logs and rocks.

Make sure you have the correct size spoke wrench and make very small adjustment. If after making a few small adjustments you see no difference or it gets worse have it checked at your LBS.
