comment How should I select front and rear gears?
It is also adviseable if you have 3 chainrings not to 'cross gears' too much (that is small ring to small sprocket and vice versa) This causes the chain to run at a less than straight angle and will cause problems

Ah. I see. I did not know what a velomobile was. Sounds fun. It was a comment, not an answer.

How about a tandem bike? - the kid can help pedal when possible, and otherwise just hold on. Panniers could then be used for any luggage.

comment Is it possible to compensate a short sized frame by adjusting seatpost and stem?
I had a choice between two sizes for my 29er hardtail. I opted for the smaller size, however when it arrived the seat could not go high enough. I bought an XL seatpost and I have been riding it fine for over a year. I do wish I had tried both sizes before purchase though

comment Snow Tire Wraps for Bicycles
I wouldnt imagine this would be possible for rim brakes, Maybe disc brakes. I tried once with chains, but there was not enough clearance under my fork arch. A sock may be better. I have also tried wrapping loads of cable ties around my tyre & rim. This worked to some effect as a temp solution

comment Shimano rear hub body compatibility
An update. I ended up ordering the whole rear hub again as it was just £4 more than the cheapest compatible freehub body. I intend to use the bearings, seals etc to service this one. and have a spare (bodyless) hub and QR left over.
