I started commuting on a mountain bike in 2009 and soon added recreational rides both off- and on-road. I switched to a road bike in 2012, some time after I realized that I love climbing mountain roads.

comment How to ride to work without sweating?
It might be more realistic to figure out how to take a shower at work than trying to avoid sweat in the first place: bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/308/…

comment Is there anything I can do to prevent snakebites (pinch flats)?
@mikeTheLiar I really think you need wider rims, and then you can move to narrower tires. In the meantime, all you can do is increase the air pressure as has been suggested in other answers.

With wider rims, I think this would be a fantastic idea.

comment Can fresh hot asphalt damage slicks?
From Wikipedia: "He lost control of his bicycle after he locked his rear brake and the rear tyre came off the wheel on a patch of tarmac that was softened by the sun, sending his rear wheel skidding first in one direction and then the other."

comment Is it possible to date Shimano components?
To the sarcastic responders: when you're comparing used bikes and components at different prices, this is a very useful question (and it's about reliability, not just weight). But this might be a duplicate: bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/108/…

Clarify what type of snakebites (since mountain bikers might encounter another kind ;)

comment bike racks for outdoor use at a school
@BrtH From what you describe, I can maybe imagine how the first one could work with a U-lock (though it's hard to see in a 200px photo. For the second, it looks like the frame is about a foot from the ring, which wouldn't work with my 5-inch U-lock.

Unfortunately, none of these racks is usable with U-locks.

Welcome to Bicycles.SE. Would you consider expanding your answer to give a brief description of how it works? Otherwise it comes across a bit more as an advertisement than an answer.

comment How to avoid riding on a gravel on the road sides? + Riding through traffic lights
Zdravo, Mladen. Here in the U.S., gravel would usually qualify as a safety reason that justifies taking the lane, in which case it wouldn't be illegal. From what you describe, it sounds like it's the same in Serbia.

comment Is the Power-Link designed for routine usage?
By the way, the non-reusable links for 10 speed seem to be called "PowerLock", where the reuseable ones for 9 speed are called "PowerLink".

comment I wish to get fit, therefore should I have a heavy bike?
Road bikes force you to lean forward a bit more aggressively, which encourages you to work harder. They also allow you to continue to push at harder speeds. Overall, I think road bikes naturally encourage higher fitness.

Further de-emphasize the brand and emphasize the cost trade-off issues

@AndrewWelch I took a stab at focusing the question a bit more on the cost trade-off issues. If this isn't what you're going for, please feel free to revert.
