I've been commuting by bike since 2009. I enjoy road cycling and occasional mountain biking.

comment What's the shortest / easiest “granny gear” available?
My mountain bike had a 24x34 gear on 26x2.00 wheels, which according to the calculator is 18.2 gear inches. At 60 RPM, that gives 3.3 miles (walking speed). As silly as it feels to go that slow, it can be nice to have the option. :)

It sounds like you probably have a hybrid or mountain bike. Could you give any more detail about the bike or the specific components on it?

comment Padded saddle VS padded shorts
Furthermore, a padded saddle and unpadded shorts would cause the saddle's padding to put pressure on the perineum when moving to certain positions.

comment What are the most significant factors affecting downhill cruising speed?
@Angelo, that's really interesting. Does this happen before or after the speeds where the top gear maxes out (around 30-35 mph). In other words, if I hypothetical bike had a really high gear, would this change the speed where it would make sense to stop pedaling?

comment What are the benefits of 700c23 tires?
I just did a quick search and didn't see any 35mm tires rated above 85psi. Do you have special rims and special tires to let you ride such a wide tire at such high pressure?

comment Can I zero the gauge on my floor pump
I'm glad you were able to fix it. Hopefully the pin isn't likely to get stuck again.

You have some very interesting thoughts here, but unfortunately the tone seems unnecessarily confrontational. It would also be helpful to have references for any specific studies that show that wider tires have lower rolling resistance, so it's not just one person's word against another's.
