I finally got a pair of these and am extremely satisfied. Thank you for the recommendation, Benzo.

comment Why ride a fixed-gear bike?
Seeing as how they're often lighter, I'd argue it's much easier to heft them into the back of my pickup truck after cutting the chain. ;-)

comment Why ride a fixed-gear bike?
+1 for the knees bit. I've torn both my ACLs and at 30 years old must keep a cadence of at least 60 pedals per minute or else there is too much pressure on my knees. Coming out of a dead start on a fixie is just not possible.

comment Most effective upgrades on Road bike
I think you should ride at least a year on that bike before considering upgrades. You're starting on a very nice machine. You need some real world experience before you start spending even more money on upgrades of dubious utility.

Are you guys wearing the regular ~$65 bibs or the $139 elites?

comment What can I do to help me sustain frequent long-ish rides?
The best answer I think. To make a minor additional comment regarding pace - I too ride to and from work and on the way to work I ride as slowly as needed to avoid sweating, then on the way home I ride as hard as I can to maximize the workout. The thinking here is I'd rather not be tired and stinky at work, whereas when I get home I can take a shower and rest immediately.

comment About 20-30 people bike to where I work. What equipment/supplies should we have on hand?
I'd also include torx ("star") wrenches. Those are far harder to find than hex wrenches, and are commonly used on disc-brake assemblies.
