I broke my front brake once, and was riding home using my rear brake. Surely enough, the result was "boiling fluid due to excessive use of rear brake downhill". When using only one brake on steep downhills, you should ride slowly, ready to bail at any moment.

In any technical riding, the seat should be low, with or without drop post - so it doesn't solve any problems; it only makes riding more convenient.
