Protocol for downhill cyclist overtaking a car? Personally, at least when I'm riding in the city, I try to imagine that everyone one in a car is actively trying to kill me. Not true, of course, but it forces you not to get complacent :) |

Are Z-shaped cranks a good idea? I wonder if it'd be possible to make something similar out of spring steel, to actually take advantage of the spring effect? Also, my pants already get caught on my straight cranks. These cranks look terrifying. |

Are Z-shaped cranks a good idea? Considering that the kickstarter project is still up, despite all the corrective comments on the page, it seems safe to say that the project founder is a crank! [ ... sorry, someone had to say it :) ] |

Am I too heavy for my road bike tires? What pressure were you inflating them to? Also, are 27x1.25 the same as 32x700c? |

How can you speed a road-bike up? +1 cause everyone else is assuming that this bike is half decent to start with :) |

How can you speed a road-bike up? Why do you say rotating mass will slow you down the most? Wouldn't it be fairly negligible once you're up to speed, and just maintaining angular momentum? |

Terminology index So it's more about safety for the bike than for the rider? |

What is the best method to teach a young child to ride? Yeah, this is how I learned, on a maybe 1:4 slope, with a flat bit at the bottom. Start by just rolling down the hill, without feet on pedals, practicing balance. Then try the same with feet on the pedals, but without pedalling. Then try pedalling. Then try it on flat ground. |

Terminology index Hose clamps can cut into paint an even metal if they're tight enough. You can stick a strip of old inner tube under the clamp to prevent this (and to provide better grip). |

Cure for numb nuts? @DanielRHicks: I remember seeing a science TV show in germany years ago, where they tested whether cutouts were good for the prostate or not. They didn't actually look at it directly, but just measured the pressure over the surface of the saddle. Cutouts actually had two points of higher pressure than normal saddles, either side of the cutout (where they're quite sharp), which the show implied was a bad thing. I don't know how that would relate to Iszi's problem, but I'd be cautious about recommending it. |

isn't a fixie without a full chain guard a safety hazard? I thought fixie riders all wore shorts... |

Why don’t fixed gear bikes have brakes? Would probably be better as a comment :) |
