comment the derailer is touching chain and it won't let me go past 14 speed supposed to go 21 speeds
Is it your front derailleur or the rear that's bent? If the rear derailleur, is the derailleur itself bent or the derailleur hanger (the portion of your rear dropout to which the derailleur attacks)?

comment Maximum weight an average bicycle can carry?
@D.CanCelasun, no. Compression in the tires is not a sign that the frame is under stress, just a sign that the tires are not at a high enough pressure for the weight they're supporting to ride on a firm cushion of air. It means you might be at risk of pinch flats when you get a momentary increase in downward force. I would go with Useless's advice.

Do you notice much bending or flexing in the frame when you're pedalling hard?

comment Avoiding being wiped out after work commute?
+1 for just stick with it. If you sweat much, bananas are great cycling food. 30 miles is not so much that you need to be super careful about replacement salts and good sports drinks help with that. Bananas though are easy to carry & eat, a reasonably quick source of energy, and are an especially good source of Potassium which you might not get enough of from sports drinks and, cycling aside, most people just need more fruit in their diet.

comment What skills must cyclists master to succeed at racing?
"Other sports ... also require great feats of intense concentration." Few require sustained concentration. In almost all other sports, there is frequent down-time when one can focus on other things. In baseball, one whole team (except for the batter) can relax at any time, and the other team except for the basemen (who have to worry about stolen bases) can ignore anything except the pitcher unless the pitcher is moving or the ball is in-play. Climbing might be similar to cycling in the amount of concentration required but even there quick decision making is only critical when hanging.

comment Flying with your bike
@StephenTouset, it can be easier to box the bike ahead of time. I've never found a LBS that wasn't happy to let me take a box that they'd otherwise just cut up and discard. Call ahead though, because shops often take deliveries at certain times of day, and might not keep boxes intact for long.

Often you don't have to pay oversized fees (which can easily come to 150$US) if you pick a flight that has no domestic legs. That worked for me in 2009 though I haven't had occasion to test it recently.
