Hello there.

comment What are the minimum requirements to commute comfortably through the winter?
For those of us who don't live there, what's the temperature like in winter in NYC?

comment What are some other places to buy MTB frames online?
Don't forget to check on eBay, being in Australia you might even find someone closer to you than those big online stores.

comment My brake lever is coming loose from my handle bars; how can I tighten it?
I own shimano 105 brakes and I can tighten them without unwrapping anything. Only a little rubber to lift. What brakes do you have?

comment At what time of year can I buy a bicycle for the best price?
I'd add that if you DON'T want the newest stuff, it's the best time as well. These guys want to get rid of the older models so they can have new stuff all over the place. It should be pretty easy to bargain some excellent deals at this time of the year.

comment Are there brands that sell weather-resistant chains?
+1 - Spend money on quality lube instead of on a "higher quality" chain

comment At what height should I have my seat on a road bike?
For the setting back part: check the back of the seat post, sometimes there are some height marks (like every millimetres or so).

comment How Strong is my road bike?
Watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=5z1fSpZNXhU (trials-ish riding with a carbon road bike). It doesn't answer your question, and it doesn't mean road bikes are tanks, but I'm just saying they aren't made out of glass either.

comment Where can I buy a wide range of used bike parts online?
"I know of an Ebay site" ? Do you mean an eBay seller? Because there is plenty of second hand bike stuff on eBay. I would recommend it.

comment How to make studded tires
Interesting idea, but zip ties break pretty quickly when stressed in cold temperatures. I've used some to quick-fix snow shoes and they barely lasted 10 minutes.

comment Is there a All-In-One Bike that I can use for several types of riding?
While you certainly can ride a cyclocross bike off road, you're pretty much limited to fireroad-ish type of trails. There are pretty good all-in-one roadies and all-in-one mountain bikes, but an all-in-one covering both is perhaps asking too much.

comment Looking for orange tyres
"orange tire folding 700 x 23c" on google images ( google.ca/… ). It was somewhere in there. ;) You can also refine searches by the colour of the image ( google.ca/… ) but that returned only completely orange tires.

Short answer: No.

You're right, reach adjust doesn't mean what I thought it meant. ;)

So I cited the good bits and encourage going to see the rest. Is that an improvement?

About that downvote to whoever did it, is it really necessary to re-write something up when a link provides the necessary information?

comment Pre ride checks
+1. I might add that checking if the quick release levers (if any) are tight enough is something you should check. You'll rarely catch them loose, but you don't want to discover that they were by losing a wheel.

comment Why is carbon fiber inherently weak? Or is it?
This video is somewhat related to the topic: youtube.com/watch?v=5z1fSpZNXhU&t=1m Stunts with a carbon race frame.

A big +1 for the last paragraph

If you currently have drop bars you'll have to buy new shifters and brake levers to make the switch to a flat bar setup. I don't know what is "cheaply" for you, but it will be tough.
