Sources of vibration at high speed in and around rear wheel It turned out that it was #5 -- the bearings in the hub were worn out. The rim was also worn, so replacing the wheel solved the problem. |

Are flat handlebars stable at high speed? OK, sounds like the answer is "yes, since it depends more on frame geometry than handlebars". |

Are flat handlebars stable at high speed? Even being in the hoods feels iffy at speed, so I don't think it's just how far apart my hands are. |

How can I properly replace the hose on this older Schwinn pump? @Benedikt, I believe that's the core of my question. :) How can I check if the thread is the right size? Is there a name or spec for the threads that I have? How could I figure it out with normal household measuring tools? |

What are the steepest, highest, most miserable road ascents in the world? @JohnP, the question is pretty specific on those dimensions. I asked about road ascents, grade, and height, not mountain biking or the other dangers you list. |

What is considered the maximum safe downhill speed on a road bike? @user: given the context, you can be highly confident it's miles per hour. |

Can I damage my brakes by testing them vigorously? @Daniel: Oh. I didn't realize that. |

Can I damage my brakes by testing them vigorously? Sometimes I can take them all the way to the bars, sometimes not. It’s very hard to do so. They are cantilever brakes (non-V-brakes). The wheel is true within a couple of mm, and the pads ride just a hair away from rubbing with very modest toe-in. I don’t think they’re set up wrong. |
