It is impossible to drink a gallon of milk in an hour.

I have done so.

Therefore, I can do the impossible.

comment Can I use a 9-speed shifter with a 8-speed cassette?
@cmannett85 It's not the chain width that's a problem, it's that the distance between the cogs needs to match up to the amount of cable pulled by the derailleur. But you are correct in that the shifter and the cassette are incompatible.

comment How to fix a sluggish bike?
What happens if you put the bike on a stand or turn it upside-down? Does the crank turn easily? If you turn just the rear wheel, does that turn easily? How about the front?

Are there any decals, badges, or writing anywhere on the frame that we can't see? If there are, edit in some close-ups. If not, the comment from @DanielRHicks is likely to be the best anybody will be able to nail it down.

@RichardHaney Please also note that it is our policy that you must be nice on this site. Much of your commentary, both within the posts and regarding your edits, is bordering on rude.

@RichardHaney This site does not function like an open-ended forum. It is not an arena for bouncing ideas off one another. This site operates on a Q&A basis. The questions on this site should have definitive answers. There are a number of bicycle forums on the internet that are perfectly good arenas for open-ended discussions like the one you're attempting to start. One of those forums is our chat room. You do need 50 reputation to participate in that chat room, which you'll have once you've asked and answered a few questions.

comment Can there be a stack exchange for casual, rural bike riding and remote touring free of the fanaticism of professional bike riders?
I have closed this question as off-topic because it is not about bicycles, tricycles, unicycles, handcycles, or their use, as defined as the scope of this site in the help center.

comment Haro frame identification
It is not likely that anyone will be able to recognize your frame based on the serial number. If you take a photo of the bike and close-ups of any logos and edit those into your question, there's a good chance we'll be able to help.
