Affordable security nuts and bolts I don't know why you can't have all of your bike parts engraved with a serial number. They should come from the manufacturer that way. A laser engraver can be had for much less than $10000, it can't cost more than a few cents to engrave the parts with a number. No one would buy parts with a cut out number, and the numbers could be checked online easily. This would solve most of the problems of bike theft, very low tech solution. |

Would silica gel inside my bike frame be effective in preventing corrosion? An additional note, there are so called vapor phase/volatile corrosion inhibitors. I really don't know if they are used on bike frames, but they are very cheap. Steel parts typically come in bags treated with that stuff, and tools are often kept in a drawer with a rag dipped in the inhibitor. I don't know a trade name, but here is one product that I found. lg-outdoors.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GA_REM18378 |

Would silica gel inside my bike frame be effective in preventing corrosion? They could leave a hole open and then plug it at the end. But in general corrosion does not seem to be a big problem to warrant that effort. |

Which parameters should I track with bicycle computer so I can analyze changes in my riding? Actually I think an Arduino is a bit too small for that kind of project, I'd go with something with an ARM core, like the STM32L. I think there are some ARM Arduinos. Now that three axis accelerometer chips are cheap, one can record the accelerations in several times a second. That could maybe tell about the state of the rider, how he is handling the bike. |

Which parameters should I track with bicycle computer so I can analyze changes in my riding? At least he'll get a lot of exercise that way. But anyway, it's an interesting project. Once you have all the data, you can look for all kinds of interesting correlations. |
