@PeteH Yes, but in my experience (admittedly mostly with road group sets) the incompatibilities tend to be at the back of the drivetrain rather than the front. I've never had any problems mixing various flavours of 9sp and 10sp Shimano components at the front of the drivetrain on my road bikes, so long as the rear end is set up properly (which it is, in this case). But then, maybe I've just been lucky :)

Actually, it seems more sensible to post this as a new question: bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/28447/…

Thanks – this is really helpful. Another question, if you don't mind: according to the tech docs, the M665 chainset isn't 10-speed compatible (although the M660 is). Would this be down to the chainrings being too wide?

The carbon doesn't rust, but the nut itself is steel I think, so there might still be hope...

comment Recessed brake pivot nut stuck in carbon fork
@Blam The pivot nut isn't rotating. I meant that, since the calliper has to be aligned in a certain direction, I can't fully tighten it against the nut (the nut is positioned such that if I did, the calliper would be pointing the wrong way). I therefore have to leave it not-quite-tight in the nut. If I could release the nut, then I could hold the calliper in the correct orientation while tightening the nut instead.
