I am a developer at a small software company in Vancouver, BC. Professionally I use Java, recently I've written a large amount of GWT code. Personally I prefer to stick with the simpler and more efficient (in terms of my programming time) Ruby on Rails and plain old Javascript.

It's worth noting that Friel, in the Cyclist's Training Bible, states that you shouldn't really think of periodization in the first 3 or so years of cycling competitively.
