comment bike racks for outdoor use at a school
@amcnabb They can both be used with u-locks. The first one has a hole in the clamp, through which a u-lock can be put to the frame. The ring of the other is very close to the frame, so you can also easily use the lock there.

comment New To Philly, looking for good biking routes!
I know nothing about this specific situation, but my advise is to always use walking routes in google maps. That way you avoid highways and such, and if you can walk somewhere, than you it is also possible to cycle there (although not necessarily allowed).

@amcnabb Yes, you are right of course, but I got a little carried away by my emotions when I was writing the answer. I still find this behaviour of suing everyone disgusting, but it shouldn't be in my answer, because it didnt provide any helpful information, and was definitely not an objective statement.

comment En masse bicycle commuting
I often ride at cycle lanes with a lot of other cyclist, because I live in Holland, where we have 20 million bikes and just 17 million residents. I have found that cyclists often come in waves, because of the traffic lights. I don't like it if there are a lot of other people around me, so my strategy is to just cycle so fast that I cycle in the front of the wave. I can be quite egocentric to come there, including using the sidewalk, but if three people cycle next to each other on a 1,5 m wide path, and they don't move away fast enough, I just feel like don't have a choice...
