comment Is bike fit really needed?
I had this issue too: ITBS and long rides. Lots of rest and physical therapy didn't help. I was convinced to have the proper setting. I got fitted and the pain disappeared.

It is my experience that all groups last thousands of kilometers before needing to be changed, plenty for a recreational rider. But it is my experience too that groups tend to loose adjustment after only hundreds of kilometers, specially the low-end ones. Hence I separate them, admittedly somewhat arbitrarily.

Money is not the issue for me. The issue is spending it wisely. I will pay for the good stuff if the difference in quality is noticeable. If I will have to adjust gears anyway, then buying the expensive groupset is not wise.

You're right, my bike is entry level. I recently changed chain and cassette, and adjust the drivetrain regularly, but the gears just don't want to stay tuned. As the only change has been me doing harder trails and abusing the bike, I didn't know if that is normal. I suspect that I may have thrown at the bike more that it can take. For what you say I infer that the sweet spot is somewhat between the 2nd and 3rd tier groupsets.
