comment Theft deterrents (in addition to locking up a bike)
Nice answer, but did you mean: "However, uglifying your bike isn't as effective against common thieves as it is against these planned attacks" or the reverse?

comment Why the penny-farthing?
+1 for the "major feat" idea. I think Mark Twain said something like "Try a [penny-farthing] bicycle, you won't regret it if you live".

comment What is the effect of changing length of crank arms?
@PeteH, you might be better off with a thick inner sole or some kind of packing at the cleat. A shorter crank might help when the short leg is at the bottom of the stroke, but be worse at the top of the stroke. A professional bike fitter should be able to help.

comment Tools and spares needed to repair a chain on the road
+1 for mentioning that the repair links are an alternative to the chain break. This was new information to me and very useful!

But yes, although the chain still runs smoothly, according to Campag's replacement schedule, it should be changed "soon". campagnolo.com/repository/documenti/en/… (section 4.1 at the bottom)

@Blam. I mean I'm not a heavy/powerful rider. I have the Park CC-2, but it said the chain was worn from about 1000km. Then I read this: pardo.net/bike/pic/fail-004/000.html
