comment Forward thinking for riding through winter
Good point! but last winter, I never had to complain about that part, just a few snowy and icy days forced me to leave the bike home. I want to use it every day this year. I may have improvement spots for clothing, but it's not critical compared to what I already have (but I am working on it,... there is a winter jacket being delivered in the coming days, and a pair of gloves in a shopping basket waiting to be ordered)

comment Why are roadies concerned about weight?
Well, I suppose that would be true in a vacuum environment (is that the english way of saying that?? not sure but you get my point)... But when you're at 40 kmh on a flat road the friction with air,the friction of mechanical pieces against each other will make you lose speed so you need to keep pedaling and once again, getting from 39 to 40 kph will be easier the lighter your bike is.

comment Why are some bikes sold without pedals?
Agreed, the customer most often has shoes with cleats on them but unless he is replacing an old bike, he does not have spare pedals so how I see it is that the guy goes to the bike shop, buys a bike along with the right set of pedals among the zillion standards the shop has in stock and that matches the guy's cleats on the shoes he has already. When I bought a new bike just 2 months ago, I bought it along with a set of tyres and pedals (to match the cleats on the shoes I already had) and the shop kindly installed all these components...

Just like higher end tennis rackets are sold with no strings. What startles me is that the same bikes are often sold with low-end tyres whereas tyres choice is pretty much just as personnal as pedal standards. Maybe is it because a bike without pedals still looks good in a show room but not a bike with no tyres (and the low-end tyres at least protect the rims...). But seeing Schwalbe Luganos on a bike with a carbon fork and a full 105 groupset is heartbreaking imho...
