* If someone asks "How can I do XYZ?", don't answer just to say "Don't do XYZ." It's more polite to post "Here's how to do XYZ. But, consider this before you do it..." You don't always know why someone wants to do XYZ.

* I do not like Resharper. I'm happy that you like it. I have tried it, and I don't like it. Now go away.

* I'm thinking of taking up F# purely so that I won't have to deal with programmers who don't understand why side effects are usually bad.

comment Listening to audio without obstructing ears
I have a Cy-fi. I'm not sure how loud it is to people other than me, but my impression is that the audio is loud enough for a rider to hear, but not really loud enough for most people to notice as the rider goes by. (At least, I haven't had anyone remark on it, either positive or negative.) The sound quality (particularly the bass) obviously isn't as good as what you'd get from headphones, but it's pretty decent, and it definitely doesn't cover your ears, and makes it much easier to hear cars and such.

comment When should cyclists use pedestrian facilities?
I agree with the sentiment about not reinforcing the idea that bicycles aren't proper road users. ...Unfortunately, many of the bicycles around here already reinforce it by plowing through red lights.

comment Mapping the most gentle route for my single speed
Also, if you find that Google Maps gives you a steep route and you know a better alternative, you can contact them and suggest it. I did this with a route near my house, and they corrected it to route by default along a gentler hill. See here: bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/1644/…

comment Mount additional water bottle on bike frame with only one water bottle mount
I bought a bike that came with no(!) cages, nor any place to put them(!!), but hose clamps like this solved the problem handily. If the bike shop doesn't have them, you can buy them at a hardware store.

@neilfein, sorry, Kyralessa's answer was getting downvoted (rather rudely, I thought) so it's deleted now.

Seems to me like if a law like that could pass, the best alternative would be to move out of Oregon.

comment How to clean up at work after a commute?
It's odd that this is the accepted answer, and is voted so high, when it gives (a) a story about not having to clean up, and (b) a story that only speculates about what someone did.

comment Urban Cycling Safety Innovations
In our area, lately, they use a lot of optical detection; camera-type devices on top of traffic lights that detect when there's anything in the intersection. On a bicycle those are easy to trigger.
