I used this industrial strength glue with large patches of leather which worked brilliantly, so the glue would have to glue leather onto plastic.

Commuting and road riding are different as commuting tends to be more about getting a job done whereas road riding in general could be competition or longer rides etc.

in my experience no tyre on ice is that good and snow eventually compacts to ice. Often there will be ice under the snow, so its a bit of a gamble.Knobly mtb tyres are better than slicks (obviously) and I've heard from a reliable source that with spikes you can cycle to the arctic circle. A little bit of grip is better than nothing or is there really nothing in it for road tyres other than being more careful.
