I'm fund-raising for the Tour for Kids, a four day ride in southern Ontario coming up in August. One hundred percent of every donation goes directly to the kids, improving the quality of life for kids living with cancer; Nothing is shaved off for administration/other ride costs. What's the definition of a Mixte? Seems like this should be merged into the terminology index when an answer is accepted. |

Is it ever legal in the USA not to have two brakes on a bike? 25 feet at only 10 mph (7.5 meters at 16km/h) seems like quite a long stopping distance to me, especially at such a relatively low speed. |

Shoes for oddly shaped feet I wound up with a pair of Specialized Tahoe shoes. I went slightly too big but snug enough that my heel doesn't pull out, and seated the cleat as far back as it would go to offset the extra shoe length. They have a wide toe-box and are proving to be quite comfortable. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. |

Shoes for oddly shaped feet +1 for mentioning the position of the cleat; I wasn't thinking about that, but I am now. |

Shoes for oddly shaped feet @Jay I've heard nothing but good things about them and I'm quite interested in trying them out. |

What's the shortest / easiest “granny gear” available? Would be helpful if you could offer an explanation for gear inches in the terminology thread; what higher or lower values translate into for the cyclist, how it's calculate, etc... |

Fixed-gear vs single-speed for clipless pedals @zigdon That was part of my question. In regards to large hills: "I don't know how difficult it would be to control my speed with a fixed-gear." |

Outstanding Organized Rides I thought about mentioning this, but the fact that you have to raise $2500 to participate rules it out for the vast majority of people. I'm 1/100th of the way there :p |

What are the reasons for and against wearing a bicycle helmet? Helmet hair prompted me to shave my head. Problem solved. |
