Cycle commuter and occasional tourist for over 20 years. Bought a sub-10kg road bike in Spring 2011 and greatly enjoying it - can't believe how much difference a few kilos makes.

How can I avoid getting chain grease on my trouser leg Could you clarify what it is about riding fixed-gear that is leading to stained jeans? |

Is it Shimaro or Shimanno? Your friend is misinformed; the best bike parts are Campagnolo. |

How can I check tire pressure without a pressure gauge? Agreed, though it's considerably more expensive. And less portable. |

Sun protection while touring How did you use the buff to protect you from swear? Did you stick it in your ears? (sorry i tried to fix the typo but apparently i'm not allowed to make an edit of less than 6 characters, which seems pretty daft to me) |

Why are there no team breakaways in road racing? @wdypdx22 Ok, but neither am I wondering why there isn't a team breakaway every day. Just why there isn't sometimes, in particular on a flat stage in the first week that will be followed by another flat stage. Feel free to pontificate further now you're back from wherever you had to go ;-) |

Why are there no team breakaways in road racing? @zenbike You're the one who said "The GC advantage of a team that succeeded in such a maneuver would be all but impossible for other teams to recover from", so how would it ruin the chances of a GC contender? |

How to clean consumable metallic parts cheaply while touring? 3rd edition (1990) of Richard's New Bicycle Book recommended kerosene (or paraffin as we call it in the UK), although with reservations as "it contains water". Richard is surely talking nonsense about that though - kerosene is immiscible with water, so how can it 'contain' it? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerosene#Properties |

Why are there no team breakaways in road racing? Agree a team breakaway in the mountains would make no sense. But not every flat stage has a mountain stage the next day, e.g. in the first week of the TdF. |
