When I'm not bicycling, I'm a Linux SysAdmin. I'm on the board of my local bicycle advocacy group.

Bikes are my primary transportation. A 2009 Surly Long Haul Trucker, set up as a commuter and a 2012 Trek Ion CX. I also take the bus, but do not own a car.

revised Where can I look up voting guide for better bike infrastructure?
LA bike coalition link was broken and couldn't find where they'd moved it. Replaced with California Bike Coalition's list of affiliates, and rephrased sentence slightly so it doesn't sound like it's LA's page.

comment Cycling fast - and brakes don't work - what to do?
The question got closed as a duplicate, but your answer looks pretty good. You may want to post this as an answer to the original question, instead.

Welcome to Bicycles! It's actually better to "close as duplicate" than to delete, so that later searches that happen to phrase it more like you did find your version and are sent to the original version. Essentially, turning your question into a signpost. I've undeleted it and closed it as a duplicate instead. You don't have the rep yet to "vote to close", so you can "flag" to ask for those kinds of things to be done.

comment Can anyone identify this frame?
I'm thinking the stuff on the left of the rear dropout is for a coaster brake. Right side maybe for a cable for internal hub gears?

comment Are single-speed bikes better equipped to handle cog/chain wear?
@DanielRHicks: Yes, all that. Also, if you have even tooth counts front and back you can wear things down much further before there's any skipping.

How many cut threads? 2cm worth?

Is it 2cm on the outside, or is it 2cm when you look at the inside of the tire? Damage to the rubber isn't a big deal, but damage to the threads encased in that rubber is a problem.
