When I'm not bicycling, I'm a Linux SysAdmin. I'm on the board of my local bicycle advocacy group.

Bikes are my primary transportation. A 2009 Surly Long Haul Trucker, set up as a commuter and a 2012 Trek Ion CX. I also take the bus, but do not own a car.

comment What is the difference between a TREK 7.2 FX and a TREK 7.3 FX?
@JL01: @ToddPierce's answer covers it pretty well. For the same model year, the 7.3 is better than the 7.2 (but in very minor ways). Is there some reason you can't go to two bike shops and check them both out?

@Mathew: The "not a real question" designation is a technical term in the Stack Exchange network. Basically, we want to figure out how to rewrite this to be more answerable. We're talking about it at "How can this question be improved?" on meta.

comment Recommendation for panniers to carry a laptop for daily commute That's available in the UK
@Kibbee: laptops "park" the drive head when off, so that minor bumps and whatnot don't cause a problem. Some even have an acceleration sensor and park the drive head when that gets set off.

comment Effects of design on speed?
The rolling resistance will probably be lower on the larger tire (if at same psi), but the wind resistance will be higher on that larger tire, and at higher speeds that wind resistance is a bigger facter. There's no general formula, it depends on more construction details than just the size.
