@sleske in my experience most non-leather seats have some kind of foam inside them that will absorb water. If you have a truly plastic-only seat (or maybe plastic with a gel insert), then yes, you probably don't need a cover for that.

comment Going on a long distance bike tour: what kit do I need?
I took a compact pump on a very long tour and had a fine experience with it. It wouldn't have worked for road tires but it could get up to 100psi with a little work -- far better IMO than carrying around a full-size pump. It probably depends a lot on the particular pump you try though.
