I'm an experienced bike commuter and touring cyclist. I have passions for folding bikes, drawing and painting, and playing my guitars. I'm often seen hauling groceries with or taking photos from my bike. I'm also a musician, and my band also has released a couple of albums.

You can follow me on Twitter @neilfein.

Cycling Shorts and underwear "this remedy has stopped working for me". Did it work at one point? If so, what's changed between then and now? For example, did you change your saddle? Have you gained weight or muscle mass? Changed pedal width or saddle height? All of these could be contributing factors. |

Cycling Shorts and underwear Anecdotal responses about what people do to reduce chafing may or may not help, but more information about you and your saddle would help diagnose this. |

Good locks seem awfully heavy This question is trying to start a discussion, not sak a question. Have voted to close, but editing the question and some of the answers could save it. |

Is having your hands “on the hoods” of drop handlebars safe for braking? @Baumr - When you're leaning forward, you need to lift your head up higher to compensate. |

Does frame size inside a particular model affect the ride characteristics of the bike? I think the question is also asking if reducing a design to such a small size changes the proportions so much that it compromises the intent of the design? |

Thinking of quitting due to dangerous driving This is really a discussion-starter and not an answerable question. Maybe it can be edited to ask, say, a risk-assessment question or something else? |

Disabling back-pedal brake @DanielRHicks - Internal hubs are supposed to be maintenance-free, too. Experience has taught me that "maintenance-free" nearly never is. |

Disabling back-pedal brake @CareyGregory - I have to agree with you here. Hand brakes are more powerful as well as easier to adjust and maintain than coaster brakes; it's hardly an affectation to improve something. |

bike racks for outdoor use at a school It would be better if you described the styles of racks you're referring to, rather than rely on links to images. (Links often break over time.) |

What is the largest hole a tire can bear before replacement? I can testify that this will work for a few miles... but that's it. A touring buddy got a gash of about an inch and a half in his tire, and we were able to eke a few miles out of it by sealing the gash with duct tape, wrapping it around the tire and the rim. It held for 4.5 miles, but we still had to push our loaded touring bikes for 5 miles to finish the day. I was impressed by how long it held! |
