I'm an experienced bike commuter and touring cyclist. I have passions for folding bikes, drawing and painting, and playing my guitars. I'm often seen hauling groceries with or taking photos from my bike. I'm also a musician, and my band also has released a couple of albums.

Tremendous answer! To make it even better, I'd love to see some links backing up the studies you mention. Also, welcome to the site!

Welcome to Bicycles! I've lightly edited the text for grammar and spelling, details are in the change history.

This question is looking to start a discussion; have voted to close for now, but maybe it can be edited into something more specific?

comment Allez vs Secteur
This is more of a discussion question than anything else. I'm voting to place this on hold for now, but you can probably improve this by adding more detail about your circumstances, as per this answer on meta.

comment Is it possible to predict when roads will have less traffic?
I've also added the touring tag, is it appropriate here?

comment Is it possible to predict when roads will have less traffic?
@romkyns - I've significantly reworded this to address some of the concerns in the comments. As a touring cyclist myself who loves the planning phase of a trip, I hope that my changes will head off any more close votes. But please don't hesitate to rollback my edit if you feel I've changed your meaning too much.

comment DIY wooden bike rack — looking for plans
@robbarreca I eventually purchased two metal bike racks (I found them for a very cheap price) but had I not I would have built the rack illustrated above.

@DanielRHicks - Do we have a question about that? I'd like to link to it here.

Rolled back the edit about bearing efficiency since the question isn't about efficiency.

comment How can I make my bike (and myself) visible at night?
@DanielRHicks - I didn't know that. Anything to back that up? I'd be curious how that works. I imagine I'd want to keep them on a commuter but not so much on, say, a mountain bike (which I don't ride at night).

Perhaps what is meant is tires with reflective sidewalls? Those are indeed amazingly reflective.

comment How to minimize wear on pants
For very short rides, I ride in jeans or cotton pants or whatever I have on. For anything longer than a mile or so, I change into cycling shorts.

comment How can I develop my abs while I ride my bicycle?
Sheldon was right about this: If you have to stand to pedal, then there's a problem. But if a cyclist just plain wants to stand to pedal (I enjoy it from time to time), then that's another matter.

comment Techniques for minimising injury when falling or crashing?
@ChrisH - I try to keep a light grip on the bars, easy to do when you're holding them from the side. It lets you "walk" from brake to shifter, using your fingertips to keep contact with the bars. I'm guessing that you're using drop bars, though, and I don't know if that's doable there. My only bike with barend shifters uses H bars, and the brake levers and shifters are fairly close to each other. If this is a serious problem for you, you may want to look into getting brifters, which integrate the brake lever and shifter.

Not many bikes these days have a built-in acoustic guitar. This is quite the find!

comment What size are the screws used for water bottle mounts etc?
@CareyGregory - Hardware stores by me only stock one thread size, so I've never had to worry about that. Nevertheless, have edited my answer.
