Election Phase

In the election phase, the candidates who made it through the nomination phase or primary phase (if required) advance to final community voting. Candidates are displayed in random order.

Any community member with 150 reputation may vote in the election. Please make your selections in order of preference, with the most desirable candidate as first choice. You do not need to rank all candidates.

We will calculate the winners using OpaVote with the Meek STV method, which automatically weights users' votes in the way that does the most good for the candidates they have selected, in order of preference.

When the election is complete, the ballot file will be freely downloadable from this page for the life of the site. Individual users' voting choices are always private; only the aggregated tally will be made public.

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

patient and fair
leads by example
shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

Nomination Primary Election

I've been a member of Bikes.SE for 3 and a half years now. My reputation's not as high as some, but I have supported the community in a couple key ways:

I coordinated a group of Stack Exchange users to volunteer at Portland Sunday Parkways . We talked to people about Stack Exchange, handed out Bikes.SE swag, and helped neighbors find routes to drive around the event course.
I've been the most active writer on the Bicycles Stack Exchange Community Blog. In particular, my bike light reviews have been extremely popular, gathering hundreds of views a day.

I've also been a community moderator on Super User (the SE site for computer questions) for over 3 years. I've handled over 1000 flags per year, and have been commended by SE staff for professionally handling several difficult moderation situations. I'm very experienced with the Stack Exchange moderation tools, and have the experience to handle almost any situation that may arise.

I can't always answer many questions on the site, but moderation is a way I can give back and make this community a better place. Cheers!

I'm an amateur framebuilder and experienced tourist. I have a fascination with load bikes, and document my adventures on www.moz.geek.nz/mozbike I'm more of a transport cyclist than recreational, and have not owned a car (but do have a driver license).

I accumulate reputation mostly through answering questions that few people care about (my median answer score is 2 but about half are accepted answers. A median of 1-3 seems to be common here, which seems low to me).

My preference is to see more long form answers to solid questions, so I spend a bit of time flagging poor questions and trying to edit questions so they can be answered, or answers so they are grammatically correct. On other SE sites I seem to get much of my rep through the 2 points per accepted edit.

I think it's important to read questions charitably, and try to assume that people are here to learn. I find that I often point out edge cases or things that other people have not considered. I take out my frustration by voting to close shopping questions.

I'm not active on meta mostly because there's not been anything exciting there since I signed up. I did "win" (cough) the decorated bike contest that got moved there.

I would like to nominate myself for the position of moderator in our current election.

I have been a member of this community for nearly two years. In that time, I have earned the majority of the moderation badges available.

I am the most active reviewer on the site. I was the first person on the site to earn the silver Reviewer badge and am closing in being the first to earn on a second one. I am also halfway to receiving a gold Steward Badge.

I have read A Theory of Moderation on several different occasions. I believe in and understand the ideals of community moderation espoused by that document.

If elected, I will endeavor to represent the community, taking action only when I knew that action would reflect the views of the community. This means that I would actually review less because my votes would be binding. I would leave border cases open to the community.

I am glad to be a part of this community and would be proud to serve as moderator.
