While the larger mountain bike tires are called 29" and also use the 700c/622mm standard (only with wider rims), the reason they are called 29" is partly because that's roughly the size of the outside of the tire once you put a big mountain bike tire on it, and also partly for marketing as standard mountain bike tires are called 26 inch. Which again, aren't actually 26 inches unless you measure the outside diameter of the tire, which can vary quite a bit depending on the tire. | |
