May 14, 2015 at 3:42 comment added Batman If you're low on money, things like Valvoline multipurpose grease will work fine for bearings and stuff, and white lithium grease works fine for threads. It's not ideal, but if the economics don't work (as they won't in most non-first world countries, or even in poorer areas of first world countries), you gotta do what you gotta do.
May 13, 2015 at 22:01 comment added Daniel R Hicks There probably is a general machinery grease that is a better choice than automotive "disk brake" (high temperature) wheel bearing grease. But it would be hard to tell you which one.
May 13, 2015 at 21:28 comment added paparazzo Yes bike grease is better than car grease. But for me this is like a discussion if frozen vegetables are better than canned. Yes frozen vegetables are marginally better. Eating vegetables is healthy. The point is you are using grease.
May 13, 2015 at 20:59 comment added Alexander @Blam Thanks for the tip. Is parktool grease water resistant?
May 13, 2015 at 20:56 comment added Alexander @DanielRHicks This question is because I own a LBS. Now in our country all the LBS using a grease designed for vehicles. And yes, for me parktool grease cost about 10 times more.

May 13, 2015 at 11:33 comment added Daniel R Hicks For the amount of grease you use on a bike there's no point is being stingy. Bike grease is selected for bike service -- more water-resistant, less apt to "run", not compromised by the auto requirement to endure high bearing temperatures.
